Reaching Grief-Stricken Mothers through HOPE Home Visiting

Many mothers in Baltimore who experience loss of a child are left to cope on their own, without counseling from a physician or support group. B'more for Healthy Babies is trying to change that through an innovative program combining home visiting with counseling by mothers who have grieved the loss of a child. The program is led by Dearea Matthews - a long-time BHB safe sleep advocate - through a partnership with the Baltimore Ctiy Health Department, Family League of Baltimore and HealthCare Access Maryland.

The Healing Ourselves through Peer Empowerment (HOPE) Project provides support to mothers who have experienced the death of a baby. To read more about HOPE's vision for its home visiting initiative, read this profile in the Baltimore Sun.

UPDATE (12/30/15): The HOPE Home Visiting Program, Angel Moms Caregivers, is implemented in partnership with Roberta's House. The program is led by Tamira Dunn.
