Early childhood program shows unexpected health benefits decades later

Researchers announced today the startling results of a longitudinal research study: adults who partciipated in an early childhood program decades ago not only show improved outcomes related to education, but also health benefits such as lower rates of obesity and high blood pressure. The researchers indicate their surprise at finding health benefits resulting from a program that focused on improving cognitive abilities.

The link between education and health is the focus of BHB's Family Literacy Coalition, which brings together organizations from both worlds to integrate messaging and activities that support health and literacy during the key period of pregnancy through age 3.
