WBAL airs tips for infant safe sleep during winter months

Dearea Matthews, peer educator, and Stephanie Regenold, MD, from the Baltimore City Health Department appeared on WBAL news January 24th to discuss safe sleep for infants during the winter months. They urged all parents to make sure babies sleep alone, on their back, in a safe and uncluttered crib.

Dearea told her experience of waking in her bed next to her baby to learn that he was no longer breathing. Her son, Charlie, was one month old that day in 2009. Dearea also cautioned parents against dressing their babies too warmly for sleep, which adds to the risk for sleep-related death.
